Land Acknowledgement
Hamilton, Ontario
The Hamilton office of mcCallumSather, located in the City of Hamilton is situated upon the Traditional Territories of the Mississaugas, Haudenousaunee, Huron-Wendat, Erie, and Attiwandaronk (Neutral Nation). This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. We further acknowledge that this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
Today, the City of Hamilton is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island (North America) and we recognize that we must do more to learn about the rich history of this land so that we can better understand our roles as residents, neighbours, partners and stewards of these lands and waters.
Kitchener, Ontario
The Kitchener office of mcCallumSather is located on the Traditional Territories of the Haudenousaunee, Mississaugas, and Attiwandaronk (Neutral Nation). Our office is positioned on the land of Haldimand Treaty of 1784, which was land granted to the Six Nations of the Grand River. This land is part of the Dish with One Spoon Treaty between the Haudenosaunee and Anishnaabe peoples and symbolizes the agreement to share, protect our resources and not to engage in conflict. We strive to improve our relationship with the land and the people we share it with. It is important to acknowledge the history behind the places and spaces we reside within today and how we can continue to learn more and honour Indigenous knowledge and philosophy.
