mcCallumSather joins Element5 to present at the 2025 Wood Solutions Conference in Ottawa

Exterior Rendering - 1620 Main St E

Matt Bolen and Christina Boyer join Lee Scott (Element5) to present at the 2025 Wood Solutions Conference, Ottawa’s premiere wood design and building event hosted by WoodWorks Ontario, a resource program of the Canadian Wood Council.

The session, titled “Building for the Future: Prefabrication, Passive Housing + The Process” will be presented at Rossy Pavillion at 3:45pm ET.

Collaboration is at the center of affordable housing – and Element5 and mcCallumSather are fortunate to have collaborated on a number of successful affordable housing mass timber projects in Ontario. Leveraging the success of these multiple projects, this team came together once again for 1620 Main Street East, a mass timber affordable housing project in Hamilton, Ontario. This case study delves into the layered approach of collaborations in mass-timber – iterative design-build construction for affordable housing targeting Passive House certification, and novel methodologies for meeting an accelerated schedule. As CityHousing Hamilton’s first mass timber build, it’s set to be one of the city’s most energy-efficient buildings, boasting near-zero greenhouse gas emissions and ultra-low operating costs. It’s also among North America’s first mass-timber Passive House multi-residential buildings, putting Hamilton on the map for eco-friendly innovation.
