Opportunity

In response to the growing shortage of affordable housing in Waterloo Region and across the country, a need emerged for innovative solutions that could address this critical issue efficiently and economically.

The goal was to create a fully barrier-free, accessible 2-bedroom rental unit that combines the autonomy of a detached home with the compact convenience of an apartment.

Response

Constructed in a factory environment in Kitchener, the structural steel-framed unit was fabricated in two sections. These sections were then transported to the site and seamlessly assembled using a crane to position them onto concrete piers in the rear yard of an existing residence. This modular construction approach not only ensured high precision and quality control but also allowed for simultaneous fabrication and site preparation, significantly reducing the overall project timeline.
