Cowan Community Health Hub
Opportunity
The Cowan Community Health Hub emerged from the need to centralize a wide range of health, social, and commercial services within the local community of Paris, Ontario. Recognizing the potential to address immediate healthcare needs while contributing to the development of a vibrant commercial district, the project aimed to create a multifunctional facility for healthcare professionals and service providers.
Response
The two-storey, 42,000 square foot Cowan Community Health Hub prioritizes accessibility, functionality, and aesthetics. The building features a double-height central atrium that floods the space with natural light, creating an inviting and uplifting environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Communal spaces like the Community Room and Meeting Rooms were designed to enhance the sense of community and facilitate collaboration among healthcare professionals and service providers. The building’s structural steel framing and concrete floors allow for flexible interior space planning, while its exterior is clad in a mix of locally manufactured veneer masonry, composite wood panels, and glazing.
Sustainability
The use of rooftop photovoltaics generates renewable energy, while green roof areas enhance insulation and support biodiversity. The building features a highly insulated building envelope, low-impact development stormwater management, and energy-efficient fixtures and equipment.
