Hamilton Health Sciences
Corporate Master Plan
Opportunity
Hamilton Health Sciences commissioned a master plan for three sites, the Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Hospital, and St. Peter’s Hospital. The goal was to develop a prioritized development plan to inform its capital planning. Each site has unique characteristics and densities, with specific challenges involving the relationship of the building to the site.
Response
The report included mid- and long-term scenarios for the three sites, inclusive of universal design concepts at each hospital, and interspersed areas for teaching, simulation learning and research with thoughtful dispersion of technology Working with each site’s micro-climates, proposed solutions enhanced the potential to connect to the surrounding communities and related commercial opportunities. As well as addressing the infrastructure issues of building areas, systems, and the rationalization of services, the study addressed issues related to site density, traffic, parking, and vis-a-vis future development opportunities. Presented in an innovative analytical graphic, findings were organized into basic, moderate, and intensive requirements, becoming a quick reference to identify a path of prioritization.
